The Liberal Democrats and the Local Government Association are pleased the Government has acted on our call for local planning authorities to retain powers to set local energy efficiency standards for new homes.

Councils are leading the way towards achieving net zero carbon. Our ambitious target in Rother is to achieve this by 2030 before the Government's 2050 target.

By increasing the technical standards of new housing there is an opportunity to improve housing quality and tackle climate change, while also creating more resilient communities and growing the green building and skills sector.
